Regional Airports has said that an agreement will be signed this week, regarding the completion of the remaining work in Thaa Thimarafushi Airport.
Director General Saamee Ageel said that discussions are under way with the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) regarding the construction of a domestic terminal and airport tower in Thimarafushi Airport, but they have not yet been able to agree on a price for this project.
“The work will be handed over to some group this week, possibly to MTCC,” Saamee said.
He said that the airport currently has a temporary terminal.
“The work at the airport has to be completed very soon. So the government is work on signing the agreement as soon as possible,” he said.
The government earlier contracted project to develop the airport in Thimarafushi to Maldives Airports Company, who contracted the project to MTCC for MVR 32 million.
The runway, taxiway, apron, fire and access roads, and runway security area have been completed under the first phase.
Minister of Finance Abdullah Jihad said earlier that MVR 58 million is required to complete Thimarafushi Airport.
