Land to be given gratis to candidates for campaigning

The City Council has decided to give land from Male’ to the presidential election candidates for campaigning, free of charge.

Member of Male’ City Council Ibrahim Sujau said that today this decision followed requests in this regard by political parties.

“Parties are requesting for land even now. We are in discussion with them. At the moment, we have received requests from Jumhooree Party and MDP. Other parties don’t seem too interested,” he said.

Sujau said that as many empty spaces as possible will be given from Male’ to candidates for campaigning.

“Now is the time when the candidates need land the most. We are prepared to provide land as per their requests. Some groups have already claimed certain lands, but that’s something we haven’t been informed of,” he said.

The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has leased the carnival area to President Waheed’s Forward With The Nation coalition for campaigning, and usfasgandu area is being used by MDP.
