MTCC to import new stock of breakwater rocks

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that they will import a shipment of breakwater rocks within the next one month’s time, for their ongoing harbour construction projects.

An official from the public limited company told Sun today that their current shipment of breakwater rocks will come in from from countries Malaysia, Cambodia and Dubai.

MTCC’s CEO Dr. Ahmed Abdulla previously stated that harbour construction takes up a majority of the company’s industry and thus, it is important for them to move away from depending availability from foreign countries in acquiring raw materials. He said that the company was looking into alternative technologies to breakwater rocks to utilize in harbour construction.

The state’s chief transport and construction company, MTCC faced a loss of MVR 4.6 million during the first quarter of 2013. They have cited difficulties in acquiring breakwater rocks as the reason for their loss for the first quarter.
