Building designated for ballot box 2 has been painted yellow, says Kolamaafushi council official

The building designated as the location for ballot box 2 by the Elections Commission in Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi has been painted yellow, according to an official of the island council.

The official told Sun Online that ballot box 2 is to be placed in the building of the island’s Women’s Committee, which has been leased to a private group.

He said that the decision to place ballot box 2 in this building was passed by the council with four votes in favour by members of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The remaining member of the council represents the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

He said that the building’s inside as well as outside walls have been painted yellow, and the area has been decorated with MDP flags.

Ballot box 1 will be placed in the island school, said the official.

Following the decision to place ballot box 2 in a building that has been painted yellow, the island’s PPM Asuruma wing has asked Elections Commission to place ballot box 1 in the campaign hall (jagaha) of Forward with the Nation coalition.

President of PPM Asuruma wing Shifaullah Saeed told Sun Online that a letter was sent yesterday to the Elections Commission, requesting it to place ballot box 1 in the campaign hall of Forward with the Nation coalition.

President of Kolamaafushi Council, in which MDP holds majority, Ahmed Jameel said that the boundary wall of the building designated for ballot box 2 had been painted orange, but the inside walls have not been painted any similar colour.
