Councilor of HulhuHenveyru constituency Mr. Maizaan Ali Manik (Alibe) said today that he will contest for the vacant post of Malé city mayor. The post became vacant when the former mayor Mr. Sarangu Adam Manik resigned.

Alibe said while speaking to Sun Online today that he is always ready to be in a post that can serve better for the nation. Alibe said that he decided to contest for the post because he believes that the unity of the council is vital in order to work to fulfill the promises made by the government.

“The need for this is that to go with the council in the remaining 2 ½ years in fulfilling the governments promises. We can speed up the work only by having a unity among us.” said Alibe.

Alibe said that he does not know whether any other member is interested for the post. He also noted that he does not know when the election is.

Sun has understood that most of the councilors want Alibe to become the mayor. And it is not known that anybody else will be contesting against him.

Former mayor Mr. Sarangu Adam Manik resigned from the post saying that he is unable to work due to the pressure of other councilors, and they were preparing to take a no confidence vote against him.
