President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has today inaugurated the road development project for Thaa Vilufushi.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President Waheed said the project was part of a nationwide road development project and that 9 roads in Vilufushi would be developed under the project. The project will see development of 66 kilometers of road across the country, the President said.
The President is also scheduled to launch a road development project for Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo this afternoon.
Managing Director of Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) Ibrahim Nazeem told Sun today that a total 4.22 kilometers of road is planned for Vilufushi.
“The contracts for both projects require that they be completed within 12 months, but we’ll try to complete work before the deadline. The roads will be constructed with tar and the pavements on both sides, with bricks. We’ve started work on laying the pipes,” Nazim said.
A length of 6.3 kilometers on 13 roads is to be constructed in Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, at a total cost of MVR 76 million.
