Eight people arrested for damaging police vehicle

Police in have arrested 8 people in connection to damaging a police vehicle in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.

Police media official said today that the vehicle was attacked around 3:00 a.m. on the 2nd of this month while parked on Fandiyaaru Magu in Thinadhoo.

A source from Thinadhoo revealed the names of those arrested as; Zulal Ahmed, 19. Bluniyage, Mohamed Aamil, 21, Sunflower, Mohamed Nadheem, 25, Uraha, Ibrahim Shagawath Rasheed, 18, Uraha, Ibrahim Adheeb, 22, Milano, Moohath Mohamed, 19, Ila, Ahmed Hashim, 18, Minivan Asseyri, all men from houses in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.

Police said that the Thinadhoo Magistrate Court has extended detention periods for all 8 men to remain in their custody for 10 days.

They are looking for additional suspects, police said.

Some of the men arrested for the attack have been indicted for terrorism for the damages caused to the island’s police station, court and council office, following the unrest that broke out after the controversial change in government in February last year.
