Police initiate investigation into case of intimidation and rape of minor

The police have initiated an investigation into a case where a girl below the age of 18 was intimidated and raped.

In an interview via Police Media, Head of Family and Child Protection Department, Chief Inspector of Police Hassan Shifau said that a minor was taken to a house and intimidated and raped by four people on 27 July, and that the incident was reported to the police two hours after it took place, at 12:50 that night.

Shifau said that the minor, when asked about the incident, said that someone took her to a room in a house in Galolhu ward to meet a friend, and that there were three other people present in the room when she arrived.

She was intimidated and raped by the three people, who also took video of the incident and tried to force her to smoke cigarettes.

Shifau said that when she went to the Family and Child Protection Department, signs of sexual activity were visible on her body.

The police also collected material evidence from the scene of the incident that night, said Shifau.

Shifau said that the four suspects were found and arrested within 72 hours of the incident.

The suspects are Ismail Nazim, 27, of Seenaa, Raa Alifushi; Asnaf Mohamed, 20, of Dhiguvaaduge, Fuvahmulah; and two minors.

Shifau said that Ismail Nazim had been arrested previously for a drug-related crime, while Asnaf Mohamed had been arrested for theft, drug use, and obstructing police duty.

Shifau urged the public to report such crimes to the police as soon as possible after they take place, as doing so would help the police in collecting evidence and ensuring that the criminals are brought to justice.
