Flat construction in two locations in Male

The construction of flats in Male’ in Gaakoshi and at the previous location of Arabiyya School, by Tata Housing, has come to a halt.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu said today that the projects are suspended due to a conflict between Tata Housing and Aima Constriction.

“The project is halted not because the Housing Ministry failed to do anything. After the construction was suspended, we met with officials of Tata about a month ago and asked them to complete the work as soon as possible. But the work has been suspended because of a problem between the contractor and the developer,” he said.

Dr Muizzu said that Tata Housing should, according to its agreement with the government, complete the work by the end of this year.

“By the time the work was fully suspended, a large percentage of the flats in Gaakoshi, and the concrete work of the flats at the previous Arabiyya School location, had been completed,” he said.

Sun has come to know that both projects came to a halt because the contractor started receiving payments in Rufiyaa instead of Dollars.

This has however not been confirmed as it has not been possible to obtain Aima Construction’s comment regarding this matter.

Tata Housing recently said that 80 percent of the construction work had been completed, regarding this project carried out under a joint venture between Apex Reality, SG18 Developers and Tata Housing.

The government has leased one million square feet of land for fifty years for housing development to this joint venture, in which 65 percent is held by Tata Housing.
