MP Shifag Mufeed (Histo) joins Jumhooree Party

Fuvahmulah MP Shifag Mufeed (Histo) has joined Jumhooree Party (JP).

Histo defected to JP from the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

He was a member of JP during the presidential election in 2008.

Speaking at a press conference today, Histo said that prior to leaving PPM, he met with Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, president of PPM, and informed him of the reason behind his wish to leave PPM.

Histo said that he does not hold any grudge against PPM.

Histo said that the leadership of JP consists of ‘educated’ persons and who can ‘ensure development’.

He said that the leadership of JP is made up of persons who know why the the two former governments failed, and that they are capable of learning from those experiences and redressing those issues.

He said that while the Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) continues to talk about aquaculture in 2013, they announced a policy for aquaculture about three years ago, but did nothing more in this regard until their government came to an end some years later.
