U.S. iterates support on economic development and combating climate change

United States of America has iterated their assurance to work with the Maldives on issues of mutual interest, particularly on fostering economic development and combating climate change.

In his congratulatory statement to the Maldives on behalf of President Barack Obama on the occasion of Maldives' 48th Independence Day, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that U.S will continue work on issues of mutual interest with the Maldives.

“Together, we will continue our work on issues of mutual interest, from fostering economic development to combating climate change,” the statement read.

It also stated the United States stands with the people of the Maldives as they advance their commitment to democracy and the rule of law and promised support as they prepare for September's presidential elections, including efforts to safeguard the democratic process by ensuring free, fair, and inclusive polls.

Relations between United States and that Maldives have distinctively increased during the recent years, particularly after their reconciliatory efforts following the controversial change of government in 2012.
