High Court upholds injunction on sale of Haveeru

The High Court has upheld the Civil Court order to halt all efforts related to the sale of Haveeru News Agency and all its business ventures.

The Civil Court injunction came after charges were pressed against Dr Mohamed Zahir Hussain, the chairman of the agency, by its co-founders, Abdullah Faroog Hassan of G. Koggiri and Ibrahim Rasheed Moosa of H. Meerubahurugeaage, regarding the ownership of Haveeru.

The Civil Court had ordered to halt all efforts related to the sale of the agency citing that due to recent media reports of plans to sell Haveeru News Agency and its related business ventures, the sale of Haveeru before the Civil Court makes a decision on the case filed in this regard could infringe the rights of its founders.

The High Court stated in its order yesterday that in order for a business contract to be valid, the seller should have ownership of the asset that is being sold; and if the court permits the sale of an asset while this requirement is in question, the purpose of the final verdict on this case might not be achieved.
