Police says will take action against those who use stolen police uniforms

Any persons found wearing or using the police uniform and police gear stolen during the incidents that occurred on the 8th of this month in Malé and some atolls, would have to face legal consequences, says the Maldives Police Service.

A Statement issued by the Police today requested anyone who has any information about the stolen police uniform and gear to immediately communicate such information to the Police.

The Statement also said that the police would be looking for any persons in possession of the said items, and that legal action would be taken against anyone found in possession of them.

The Police have stated that criminals have been creating trouble in Malé and some islands while wearing the police gear.

Some police uniforms and gear were stolen, when activists of former ruling Maldivian Democratic Party perpetrated acts of violence, destruction and arson against police stations on the 8th of this month in a number of islands, after their leader Mohamed Nasheed resigned from presidency a day earlier.
