PPM discusses coalition possibilities with Adhaalath Party

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has commenced talks with Adhaalath Party to seek possibilities of a coalition, with the objective of beating the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the upcoming presidential elections.

Vice presidential candidate for PPM Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed confirmed today that PPM is holding discussions with Adhaalath Party as part of their effort secure the September presidential elections.

He holds a close relationship with the Adhaalath Party leadership, he said. Although he can confirm that there have been discussions towards forming a coalition, Dr. Jameel said that it was too early to state how far the discussions have progressed.

“We always talk to them (Adhaalath Party) about the state of the country. Especially when this happened (when Adhaalath Party broke away from the Forward with the Nation coalition), we’re discussing how Adhaalath may make its next decision,” Jameel said.

Adhaalath Party left President Mohamed Waheed’s Forward with the Nation coalition after stating that there were ‘suspicious activities’ within the coalition. It was strongly rumored that Adhaalath Party was seeking to go into a coalition with Jumhoory Party (JP), although they had denied receiving any such proposal from JP.
