President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appointed former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Dr Amal Ali, as the Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights, and presented her the letter of appointment.
An official of the President’s Office told Sun Online that that the letter of appointment was presented tonight only to Amal, and a minister will be appointed to the Ministry of Home Affairs on a later date.
A government official told Sun Online earlier that it had been decided to appoint former Attorney General Aishath Bisam to the post of Minister of Home Affairs.
It is not known why the letter of appointment was not presented to Bisam tonight.
The post of Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights became vacant when the parliament rejected the appointment of Aishath Azima Shakoor to this post.
