Food prices hike with the advent of Ramadan

Similar to every year in the past, the prices of food products have gone up due to the increase in demand with the advent of Ramadan.

At the local market, the price of watermelon this year is MVR 20 per kg, while the price of watermelon at the beginning of Ramadan last year was MVR 15 per kg.

The price of passion fruit is MVR 80 per kg, guava is MVR 60 per kg, rambutan is MVR 80 per kg, and young coconut is between MVR 12 and 15 per piece.

The price of lime is MVR 50 per kg, chilli is MVR 180 per kg, cabbage is MVR 70 per kg, carrot is MVR 50 per kg, eggplant is MVR 40 per kg and papaya is MVR 7 per kg.

The price of onion is MVR 650 per sack, while normal shops sell onion at MVR 30 per kg and STO shops sell onion at MVR 10 per kg.

The price of eggs is MVR 440 per case, and the price of potato is MVR 8 per kg.
