MP Abdul Raheem leaves Jumhoory Party

Maafannu-West MP Abdulla Abdul Raheem has left Jumhoory Party today.

Abdul Raheem told Sun today that he has informed the Elections Commission and JP of his departure from the party. The reason he said, was that he did not agree with recent public statements by JP leader Gasim Ibrahim.

“I think that Gasim was ‘emotionally charged’ when he recently made several political remarks. He has been talking about former President Nasheed in a manner that no one should talk about another human being. ‘Nasheed thinks like a monster’ – these are not remarks that I can accept,” he said.

Gasim Ibrahim has been outspoken in his criticisms regarding failure of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government.

Speaking at a rally of JP held in Vaavu Keyodhoo last Friday night, Gasim heavily criticized the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) by saying that they did not fulfilled any of the pledges during their three years in power.

Gasim said that former president Mohamed Nasheed in fact acted completely against what he had promised in his manifesto.

While Abdul Raheem has decided to leave JP because he is unhappy with Gasim’s remarks regarding Nasheed, Abdul Raheem earlier left MDP because he did not agree with the ideas of the senior members of MDP.

Abdul Raheem got elected to the parliament on the ticket of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP). He left MDP and joined DRP for a second time, before joining JP about a year ago.
