Maldives Foreign Direct Investment at $248 million last year

United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has stated that Maldives had a total of $284 million in Foreign Direct Investment last year.

A press statement released by the UNCTAD yesterday stated that similar to 2011, Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) had increased across all small island states. It stated that the total investment for last year stands at $6.2 billion, an increase of 10 percent.

In the statement, the UN body said that Maldives had traded $284 million in FDI last year, an increase of 11 percent compared to 2011.

The statement also revealed that FDI for Africa, Asia and Pacific countries had see an increase of 31 percent, an investment total of $1.4 billion, and the the FDI’s achieved by Papua New Guinea in particular.
