I will request to vacate Usfasgandu: Nasheed

Presidential Candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that a request will be made from the party’s National Steering Committee to remove all items belonging to MDP from Usfasgandu and to vacate the area.

Speaking at a ceremony held to inaugurate MDP’s ‘Kolhumadulu Haruge’ in a house opposite Justice Building, Nasheed said that the National Steering Committee will be asked to empty Usfasgandu immediately.

He urged people to open as many MDP meeting halls (jagaha) as possible to prepare for the presidential election.

Meanwhile, Housing Ministry has gazetted an announcement asking MDP to remove all items from Usfasgandu and empty the area before midnight tomorrow.

MDP supporters have used Usfasgandu to carry out political activities since 20 March 2012, after their camps at Raalhugandu area were dismantled by the police.
