Minister of Transport and Communication Ameen Ibrahim has said that there is hope for the Thimarafushi airport to be completed by the end of September this year.
Speaking to Sun today, Transport Minister Ameen said that certain factors have delayed the Thaa Thimarafushi airport development project, which was scheduled to be completed by 25th August. There is hope for the airport to be completed by the end of September, he said.
“We were hoping for it to be completed by the 25th August. But it has been delayed due to different reasons, although from how the work is progressing now, there is hope that it will be completed by end of September,” Ameen said.
Government commissioned Maldives Airports Company for the project, which had in turn handed it over to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) for MVR 32 million.
Thimarafushi MP Ahmed Shareef recently accused the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) of deliberately trying to delay the project. MP Shareef has since left PPM and joined President Waheed’s Gaumee Ithihad Party (GIP).
