Cases have been filed against three companies for failure to make payments to the retirement pension scheme fund.
CEO of Pension Office, Mohamed Hussain Manik said at a press conference held today that charges have been pressed against Boston Investment Private Limited, Yacht Tours Maldives Private Limited and MVK Maldives Private Limited for failure to make the necessary payments to the pension fund as required by the Pension Act.
Kaashidhoo MP Abdullah Jabir holds shares in Yacht Tours Maldives, while MVK is the company that provides bus services in Male’.
Manik said that cases against Yacht Tours Maldives Private Limited and MVK Maldives Private Limited were filed on 10 June, and the case against Boston Investment Private Limited was filed on 3 March.
He said that the cases were filed after discussions with these three companies did not lead to any solution to this problem.
“We have discussed the matter with these three companies on multiple occasions, but found no solution. We first try to cooperate with such groups and find ways to make it easier for them to make the payments to the pension office,” he said.
He said that there are about 80 companies that do not make regular payments to the retirement pension scheme, and when filing cases to court, priority is given to groups that owe the largest sums to the fund.
The Pension Office also filed a case to court against Aima Construction earlier. The court ordered the company to make the payments, and Manik said that the company now contributes regularly to the fund.
The pension office said that 1,521 people contribute to the retirement scheme fund.
