Young politicians appointed as members of Waheed

Politicians representing various parties have been appointed Cabinet members of the new government. Seven members were presented Letters of Appointment at a ceremony held at the President’s Office today.

The new Attorney General is Aishath Azima Shukoor, who also acted as Attorney General in Gayoom’s government. Dr Ahmed Jamsheed, who was the former Director General of CCHDC and CCO of ADK, was appointed as Health Minister. The new Economic Development Minister is former CEO of STO Ahmed Mohamed (Addey). He is also the Deputy Leader of DRP.

Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor was appointed as Tourism Minister. He is the President of the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce. Gayoom’s spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) was appointed as the Minister of Human Resources, Youth and Sports. The new Minister of Education is DRP member Dr Asim Ahmed. Minister of Transport and Communications is Jumhooree Party member Dr Ahmed Shamheed.

On his first day as President, Dr Waheed appointed Mohamed Nazim (Colonel Nazim) as Defence Minister and Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed as Home Minister.

Ministers remain to be assigned to Finance Ministry, Islamic Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Fisheries Ministry and Housing Ministry.
