Unrest breaks out in Thinadhoo following President Waheed

Groups of people have protested and created unrest in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo following the arrival of President Dr Mohamed Waheed in the island as part of his ongoing Presidential Election campaign tour.

The team of President Waheed and his Running Mate, Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) Ahmed Thasmeen Ali was met with protests by a large group in Thinadhoo, most of whom were carrying flags of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Protesters called for President Waheed’s resignation and attacked Fares Maathoda MP Ibrahim Mutthalib. They also threw water bottles and flagpoles at members of President Waheed’s coalition.

President Waheed’s team will hold a special function at Aabadhee Markaz in the island tonight.
