MTDC employees vacate Club Faru resort

Employees of MTDC who have been managing operations on Club Faru have vacated the island resort.

An announcement by Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), the public limited company that has been managing Club Faru, stated that they have ceased functions as the resort resort’s contract recently expired and that the resort’s employees have also vacated the premises on Monday, last week.

“The employees vacated the resort because all operation had ceased on the island, and also because it had become expensive for this company to continue manage the island,” MTDC statement read.

The company claims to have repeatedly requested the Tourism Ministry to take over the island.

All operation on the island have now been ceased, the company said.

Government has decided to hand the island over to Housing Development Corporation, which will then assimilate the island into the Hulhumale’ through second phase of the Hulhumale reclamation project.

MTDC took over operations of Club Faru in December last year.
