Maldives Meteorological Centre (Met Office) has issued a Yellow Alert, advising the public to refrain from sea travel.
An official from the Met Office told Sun today that the Yellow Alert is an advisory notice, warning the public that it is not safe for sea travel due to strong winds.
The official said that winds are strongest in Central Maldives with average winds of 30 to 40 mile per hour (mph), gusting to 55 mph from 1200 hrs to 1800 hrs today. The Met Offices also said to expect extreme weather to all parts of the country within the next 24 hours, with winds of up to 17 to 24 mph in the north and south of the country.
