Former President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed’s wife and children departed for Sri Lanka last night.

Their arrival in Sri Lanka has been confirmed to Sun by an AFP Correspondent.

Reporters in Lanka said that they have arrived in Lanka. Sun Online is informed that they are staying with members of Nasheed’s family who reside in Sri Lanka.

AFP referred to Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa’s spokesperson Bandula Jayasekera and reported that Laila contacted President Rajapaksa on the phone subsequent to her arrival in Sri Lanka last night.

Jayasekera also expressed concern for the safety of the former President and his family on behalf of Rajapaksa.
