Management of Dharubaaruge to be handed over to private group

The management of Dharubaaruge is to be handed over to Design Build Solution, says Male’ City Council.

Male’ City Council Member Ibrahim Sujau told Sun today that four parties had applied following the announcement in search of a group to manage Dharubaaruge, and out of them, Design Build Solution was chosen because they had agreed to share 50 percent of the profit earned from Dharubaaruge with the government.

He said that the government would still be able to hold special functions at Dharubaaruge in spite of it being run by a private group.

Sujau said that the agreement to hand over Dharubaaruge to Design Build Solution for 10 years will be signed soon.

He said that the government earned a revenue of about MVR 1 billion annually from running Dharubaaruge previously, however, after the deduction of expenses, not much remained as profit.

He said that through a private group, the government could earn a about MVR 3 billion annually from Dharubaaruge.

Dharubaaruge is used by the government to hold public functions, parties and events.
