Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has said that Moosa Ali Jaleel remains as the Chief of Defence Forces, however the day-to-day operations of the institution are now managed by the Acting Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Shiyam.
Colonel Abdul Raheem said today that even though a person has been appointed as Acting Chief of Defence Force by the new government, Moosa Ali Jaleel is in charge of several of MNDF’s operations. Jaleel reported to work today and is carrying out his duties as per normal.
He also said that policy level day-to-day operations are being managed by Acting Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Shiyam.
“Moosa Jaleel still holds his post. However day-to-day operations are being managed by Shiyam. It’s not known for how long we will have an Acting Chief. It takes time for these things to settle,” Abdul Raheem said.
President Dr Waheed appointed Brigadier General Ahmed Shiyam as Acting Chief of Defence Force and Chief Superintendent Abdulla Fairooz as Chief of Police following the fall of former President Nasheed’s government.
