Woman arrested for having abortion by deceiving hospital authorities

Police have arrested a woman suspected of undergoing an abortion from Laamu Gan Regional Hospital by deceiving the hospital's authorities.

Police said that the 26 year old women underwent an abortion on the 16th of last month by lying to the hospital authorities that she was still married to the man who had divorced her six years ago.

Police said that the woman was arrested on the 8th of this month and that the courts have granted a 15 day period for her detention.

Laamu Gan regional hospital was unable clarify the duration of her pregnancy when she had the abortion.

The man currently in-charge of Gan Regional Hospital, Mohamed Abdul Samad said that he does not know the details of the case as the incident happened before he took over as the head of the hospital. Information can only be provided after Sunday, said Samad.
