MDP forms elections complaints committee

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has established a complaints committee to receive grievances regarding the upcoming presidential elections.

The committee consists of three lawyers, namely; the party’s Spokesperson Imthiyaz Fahmy, Abdulla Haseen and Mohamed Fareed.

The party said that the committee will look into complaints submitted by independent institutions, NGOs, different wings of the party and the general public.

Speaking at a press conference at the party’s office today, lawyer Mohamed Fareed said that they have already identified a number of issues regarding the elections.

“We have already noticed a number of problems. The person who holds power continues to use government property for campaign travels. Some other candidates are distributing certain gifts to school with their logos on them,” Fareed said.

MDP said that if the issues submitted to them are proven to have basis, they will submit them to the Elections Commission and the courts as granted by law.
