Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party has scheduled an extraordinary meeting of the party’s Council today to decide on how they will proceed for the upcoming presidential elections.
The Council meeting is scheduled for 14:30 this afternoon.
An official from DRP told Sun Online today that the agenda for the meeting holds decisions on whether the party will directly compete in the September presidential elections, who the party will choose for a running mate if they decide to compete, and the parties they will side with in coalition if they decide not the compete in the presidential elections.
DRP has said that three political parties have proposed to join them in coalition. They include; President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik’s Guamee Ithihad Party, former president Mohamed Nasheed Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and businessman and MP Gasim Ibrahim’s Jumhoory Party.
DRP has also scheduled to hold a press conference at 16:30 this evening.
