Elections Commission team departs to India

A seven-member delegation of the Elections Commission has departed to India on an invitation by the Indian Election Commission, as part of the preparations for upcoming elections in the Maldives.

This was announced in a press release issued by the Indian High Commission today.

The Indian High Commission said that the delegation is led by President of the Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeg, and includes other senior officials of the Elections Commission.

“The delegation, which left for India on 04 May, will have a first-hand experience of the assembly elections in Karnataka state, voting for which was done yesterday and counting will be held on 08 May,” says the press release issued today.

The Indian High Commission further said that High Commissioner of India, H.E. Mr Rajeev Shahare met the delegation members prior to their departure to discuss their visit as well as other issues related to the upcoming elections in Maldives.

The delegation will return on Friday.

The Elections Commission is making several preparations to ensure a smooth presidential election in Maldives in September.
