President abolishes Department of Gender and Family Protection Services

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has abolished the Department of Gender and Family Protection Services, administered under the Ministry of Gender, Family and Human Rights.

The President abolished the department through powers granted under Article 116 of the Constitution, which allows him discretion to establish all ministries required within the Government.

President’s Office revealed that the Department was abolished because a number of its functions relating to families, children, women and people with special needs are now performed by the Ministry of Gender, Family and Human Rights.
