Tarring begins for roads constructed in Addu with Sri Lankan government aid

Tarring has begun on the main road in Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo and Feydhoo in Addu City under the road construction project carried out with aid provided by the Sri Lankan government.

Addu Mayor Abdullah Sodig told Sun Online today that the road construction project had been ongoing since August last year, but tarring of the 4.5 km road began today.

Sodig said that the new road, unlike the Link Road, will be of good quality. He said that the 50 mm tar will be laid on top of a lean concrete sheet of 100 mm.

“After that they will put on a very thin, smooth layer of tar,” he said.

The road being constructed under the MVR 138 million project by Sri Lanka’s Road Development Corporation is 45 ft wide, with about 7 ft wide pavements on each side.
