PPM requests for order to halt irrecoverable damage suffered since primary

Member of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Rahma Moosa has claimed that fraud took place during the party’s recent primary held to elect a presidential candidate, and requested for an order to put an end to the irrecoverable damage being suffered as a result of this.

This request was made at the trial held today regarding the case filed by Rahma to Civil Court requesting to declare void the PPM primary.

PPM Council Member and Umar Naseer’s Campaign Manager Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem) told Sun Online that the purpose of the request by Rahma’s team, is to halt the irrecoverable damage being caused to Umar since the primary.

Saleem said that the request is for an order to halt the ongoing activities related to the PPM primary.

He said that an additional session of the trial has been scheduled at Civil Court for 16:00 tomorrow, for PPM to present its defence regarding the request.

Saleem has intervened in the case. He said that the Civil Court has said that he would be given the opportunity to present his claims at tomorrow’s session.

Rahma has claimed in her case that 8,915 people not included in the PPM registry were allowed to vote in the primary, which was a violation of the Political Parties Act.

Rahma said that while the number of PPM members on the Elections Commission’s registry as at 10 March 2013 was 22,383; 31,298 names were included on the list announced by the party’s registrar as people eligible to vote in the primary.
