National Movement leads protest against Nasheed

The National Movement has led a protest in Male’ against the remarks by former President Mohamed Nasheed while speaking at a university in Denmark during his recent visit to Denmark, in which he criticised Islam.

About 1,000 people participated in the protest which began at 21:00. Protesters started walking from Artificial Beach and continued on Majeedee Magu and other main roads. They called on the government to sentence Nasheed who, with those remarks, had become an apostate. They said that Maldivians would not allow such a person to return as the country’s president.

The protest was attended by men, women and people of all ages, and was concluded at around 22:30 back to Artificial Beach. There was no confrontation.
