Sixteen year old suffers serious injuries in assault in Vilufushi

Assault between a group in Thaa Vilufushi and a man who went to the island on a fishing boat, has resulted in two people suffering serious injuries.

A man from Vilufushi said that the incident took place at around 17:30 when the fisherman teased a woman of the island, followed by a group of Vilufushi people confronting the people of the fishing boat.

An official of Vilufushi Health Centre said that one of the victims is a 16-year-old boy from Vilufushi, while the other victim is from another island.

The 16 year old suffered two injuries to his head caused by a sharp object. He unconscious and in serious condition, and efforts are ongoing to transfer him to Laamu Gan Regional Hospital for further treatment.

The Vilufushi Health Centre official said that three members of the 16-year-old boy’s family were treated after they felt faint upon seeing the victim.

The police said that an assault was reported from Vilufushi at around 17:30, and that they are currently working on the case. No arrests have been made yet.
