Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim has purchased the assets of Miadhu News, the second oldest printed newspaper in the Maldives.
Sun Online has been informed that the assets acquired by Gasim were worth about half a million Rufiyaa. The journalists and employees of Miadhu News have also been transferred to the payroll of V Media.
Miadhu News was established by former minister, former Haa Dhaalu MP Ahmed Abdullah during Maumoon Abdul Gayooom’s administration in 1993.
Editor of Miadhu News, Abdul Latheef, when asked about Gasim’s acquisition of Miadhu News, said that he had ‘no comment on the matter’.
Meanwhile, the expenses of Haama News, which stopped publishing at the end of last year, were also covered by Gasim. The journalists of Haama News have also been transferred to V Media.
It has not been possible yet to get Gasim’s or Ahmed Abdullah’s comment regarding the sale of the assets of Miadhu News.
