PPM calls for applications for post of Vice President

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has called for applications for the party’s vacant post of Vice President.

This comes following the resignation of Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed from the post of PPM Vice President.

PPM Council Member, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon said at a press conference tonight that the party’s Council decided to call for applications for the post of Vice President at a meeting held today.

She said that only the members of the Council can put their names forward for the post of Vice President, and that this must be done within three days starting today.

Dhunya said that the Vice President will be elected through a vote taken by the Council.

Ilham, who recently left PPM, told Sun Online that he resigned from the post of PPM Vice President due to PPM’s refusal to form coalitions with other parties. He said that this had resulted in Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) becoming more influential in the parliament.

Ilham said that he personally did not believe that PPM could win the election without forming a coalition.
