Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) has said that the land reclamation work in Shaviyani Komandoo is likely to commence in about two weeks.
Managing Director of MTCC Ahmed Adham Abdullah told Sun Online today that the land reclamation work in Komandoo will begin as soon as the agreement is finalised, and that phase two of the project is likely to commence in about two weeks.
“Our site staff is already in place. The work will begin as soon as the agreement is finalised. We are hoping that the work can begin this week or next week,” he said.
Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that 5.6 hectares of land was reclaimed under phase one of the Komandoo land reclamation project, and 6.3 hectares will be reclaimed under phase two.
Komandoo Council President Ali Shaheem told Sun Online today that lack of land is a serious problem in Komandoo and that about 200 people are in need of housing. He said that the reclaimed land will be developed as leisure parks and not used for housing.
