A march has been held on the streets of Male’ to call for the implementation of Islamic Sharia in the Maldives.
The march began at around 4:30 pm near the Social Centre, and ended at around 5:45 pm near Artificial Beach. The crowd was small but people of all ages including men and women were seen to participate in the event.
Lead organiser of the event, Ali Shafiu told Sun Online that the purpose of the march was to call to implement Islamic Sharia in the Maldives, in order to save the country from the calamities it is facing today.
“This has no political purpose. This is a march initiated by the youth to call for the implementation of Islamic Sharia in the Maldives,” he said.
He said that similar marches will be held occasionally in the future as well.
At today’s event, participants expressed their opinions on the subject and carried banners calling for the implementation of Islamic Sharia.
