ARC calls on government to ratify protocol on children

Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has called on the government to ratify the UN Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on Communications Procedure.

ARC said that the purpose of ratifying the protocol is to enhance child protection measures in the country and to uphold its international legal obligations and responsibilities under the Convention.

ARC said on its web page, “The Optional Protocol on a Communications Procedure establishes an individual complaint mechanism designed to allow children, groups of children or their representatives, who claim that their rights have been violated, to bring an individual complaint before the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.”

ARC also encouraged the immediate adoption of the full spectrum of tools and mechanism provided to it as a State Party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and stressed the importance of translating such provisions domestically to improve the situation of children’s rights in the country.

ARC carries out several activities to protect and promote the rights and well-being of children.
