India will send anaesthetist to Maldives within three to four days: Defence

Ministry of Defence and National Security has stated that they have recieved assurance from the Indian Defence Minister that anaesthetist will arrive in the Maldives within three to four days’ time.

A statement released by the Ministry of Defence today stated Maldives Defence Minister Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, during his meeting with the Indian Defence Minister A. K. Antony, had discussed the recent shortage of anaesthetist in the Maldives, and that the Indian Defence Minister had assured that anaesthetist from India will arrive in the Maldives within three to four days.

Minister Nazim is currently on an official visit to India from the 14th till the 19th of this month.

Defence Ministry’s statement also stated that during his meeting with Minister A. K. Antony, Minister Nazim had requested the Indian government for efforts towards alleviating the difficulties faced by Maldivians in obtaining entry visas to India, and also the troubles faced by the Maldivian construction industry due to the recent restrictions by India on its export of aggregate and river sand to the Maldives.

The statement said that the Defence Minister had also discussed the strengthening of military ties between the two countries, and ways in which the Indian military can assist in the development of the Maldivian armed forces.

After his meeting with the Indian Minister of Defence, Minister Nazim also held meetings with Indian Service Chiefs and the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard.
