Mohamed Rishwan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police has resigned from his office tooday, saying that he was retiring, and that the President’s Office had arranged for the retirement.
Rishwan said that he decided to retire in order to start “an own enterprise” and that there were no other particular reasons for his decision.
Rumours about Rishwan resigning from the Police spread sometime ago also, though he denied them back then. He was also ordered by the Home Minister to “stay at home” during the mayhem created by Home Minister-ordered police intervention of some political disputes in K. Thulusdhoo a few months ago. According to reliable reports during the conflict, Hassan Afeef, the Minister of Home Affairs ordered the police to take control of K. Atoll Office, though Rishwan, who was in charge of implementing such orders at the moment refused saying that it “could be done within 5 minutes of a court order, but could never be done without court-given authority”. He stayed at home for about a week before starting work again.
The President’s Office said that the President had accepted Rishwan’s resignation, and that a letter to that effect had already been issued, in which the President expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for Rishwan’s invaluable services to the country as the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
