Police have revealed that they had forwarded more than 2000 cases to the Prosecutor General (PG) for prosecution, after completing of investigations last year.
The police stated that last year saw the most number of cases forwarded to the PG so far, but said that an accumulation of 20,512 cases were still pending due to different reasons.
Police also said that their efforts to expedite the investigation process have resulted in a large number of cases being contested in the courts, and that a number of cases have already finished the judicial process.
The most number of cases forwarded for prosecution last year involved drug cases, which consisted of 928 cases, out of 6,549 cases reported and 1,758 cases investigate.
Theft and assault cases had increased during last year, with a total of 6,549 cases reported, 6,234 cases investigated and 580 cases forwarded for prosecution.
The number of mugging cases were significantly low compared to the amount of cases reported, which showed to have 972 reported cases, of which 962 were investigated and 86 cases forwarded to the Prosecutor General.
In terms of assault cases, out of a total of 1314 reported, 1382 cases were investigated last year, and 347 cases sent for prosecution.
The police also revealed that they received 642 cases associated with sexual misconduct, of which 558 were investigated and 259 forwarded for prosecution.
In addition, a total of 38 domestic cases, 23 cases on traffic violation, 75 cases of deceit and treachery, 53 cases related to counterfeiting, 175 cases of bounced financial cheques, and 84 cases of willful damage of property, were forwarded to the Prosecutor General last year.
