The court hearings of the case against four people for stabbing seven people in Fuvahmulah in 2010 have been concluded today.

They have been charged for gathering illegally and using potentially lethal weapons to intimidate people.

They are suspected of going to the interjection of Bodufannu Magu and Bahaaru Magu in Dhoodigan in Fuvahmulah at around 9:30 pm on 27 January 2010, and using knives to attack seven people who were on a side-wall opposite Keyofinige.

Presenting the summary statement in court today, the State Prosecutor said that the incidents related to the claims made by the State against the four people were witnessed and described by the witnesses in their statements, and thus requested the court to declare that the four people are guilty of the crimes.

After this, the four suspects said that discrepancies exist between the accounts given in court by the seven witnesses.

Concluding today’s hearing, the judge said that the matter will be reviewed and a verdict will be issued at the next session.

Out of the seven people on the side-wall who were attacked, Abdullah Shuhad of Aasmaanuge in Fuvahmulah died on 28 January 2010 while being treated for the stab wound on the right side of his torso.

Following Shuhad’s death, Hassan Fareed, who stabbed him, has been charged for intentional murder. The Criminal Court has said the court will rule on the case against Fareed at the next session as well.
