Two regions in north and south Maldives will be developed to Male

Presidential Candidate of Jumhooree Party (JP) Gasim Ibrahim has made further promises to the people, and said that he would develop two regions in north and south Maldives to the same standard as Male’.

At a JP campaign event in Thaajuddin School last night, Gasim said that he would develop large islands in the atolls to the same standard as Male’, establish easier systems for people who travel to Male’, develop the police services, and establish a JP wing for people with disabilities.

He said that he would form a committee to address the needs of people with disabilities and include this in JP’s manifesto.

He said that one-third of the population of the Maldives is forced to live in Male’ due to poor planning, and that in order to solve this problem, he would focus his efforts on developing two regions in north and south Maldives to the same economic and social standard as Male’.

He said that Male’ has become a dangerous place to live in, and that his government would provide modern tools to the police institution similar to those used in countries such as Singapore.

Gasim said that people who travel to Male’ are not even provided the service of public washrooms in Male’, and that his government would arrange public washrooms in two areas in north Male’ for visitors.

Gasim said that he wants to become president not because he wants to earn a salary of MVR 100,000.

He said that he decided to contest in the Presidential Election following a proposal submitted in this regard by a council member of JP, which was supported by all except one council member; and because this is what the members of JP want.
