Kuwait Fund to provide for Fuvahmulah water and sewerage project

President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said today that the Kuwait Fund will provide a certain amount of funds for the water and sewerage project planned to be carried out in the island of Fuvahmulah.

Speaking at a press conference following the conclusion of his official visit to Kuwait, the President announced that the Kuwait Fund had pledged to provide funds for the project, but did not mention whether the funds will be dispensed in the form of loan or a charity contribution.

The President said that the project is projected to cost MVR 50 million.

Noting the project's priority, the President said that the Kuwait Fund will facilitate the funds within a period of two weeks and that the project is scheduled to commence soon.

“The project is about 50 million Rufiyaa, a big project. I expect that the it will be approved within the coming two weeks. They told me to consider it as something that has been finalized,” the President said.

The President also said that he was assured by the Kuwaiti government that they were prepared to provide assistance for on of two projects; either the medical centre planned to be established in Hulhumale’, or for one of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport development initiatives. He said that the Kuwaiti government had left it up to his government to choose which the project.
