Police Officer hit by fireball, sustains burn injuries

A Police Officer has sustained serious burn injuries after being hit by a fireball thrown by demonstrators during last night’s protest.

The Serious and Organised Crime Department of the Police have commenced investigations into this matter by taking into custody a 16-year-old boy suspected of hurling the fireball.

The Police informed that the Officer suffered burn injuries to the back of his neck and ears, and that he is currently being treated at ADK Hospital.

“Parts of the Officer’s combat uniform and weapons are also burnt,” the Police said.

The Police further said that two more Officers suffered injuries last night after being hit by bricks, plastic bottles and eggs. They are also currently being treated at the hospital.

Several reporters present at the protest last night said that eggs and bricks were thrown at the Police; however, this was prompted by the Police using pepper spray inches away from protesters’ faces.
