A Trans-Maldivian Airways (TMA) plane crashed into the harbour area of K. Biyaadhoo, today morning around 9. TMA, one of the leading plane operators providing tourist-transport services in the Maldives reported that the plan which crashed today was used only for training purposes and that while it crashed, only the captain and a first officer were on board. None of them suffered any injuries due to the accident.
TMA’s Managing Director Edward Allsford said today that the incident would be investigated in conjunction with the Aviation Department. He said that the plane was considerably damaged, although the details of the damage would be known after further assessment.
The plan is still at sea in Biyaadhoo, and a special team from TMA is working there to see the scope of damage caused to the plane by the incident and to get it back to Malé. Meanwhile, Hussein Jaleel, Director General of the Aviation Department stated today that a team from the Department had also left for Biyaadhoo to investigate the incident.
